The Indian equities extended rally in late morning deal on Thursday, helped by broad-based buying, tracking firm cues from Asian peers. The broader markets, MidCap and SmalCap, after seeing correction in last few sessions, are finally trading in the green today. Lupin plunges nearly 8 per cent after the company reported a sharp fall of 49.2 per cent in its consolidated net profit after taxes (PAT) at Rs 380.21 crore for the January-March quarter of FY17, hurt by decline in US sales and one-time provisioning for patent litigation. Sintex Industries rallied nearly 85 per cent in intra-day tamid spurt in volume trade as its stock has started trading ex-scheme of arrangement with effect from today.

 At 12:23 hour, the 30-share barometer Sensex was at at 30485.13, up by 183.49 points or by 0.61 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9421.5, up by 60.95 points or by 0.65 per cent. In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 30503.39 and intraday low of 30352.26, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9425.65 and intraday low of 9379.2.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1749.95,+3.86%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 313.50,+2.18%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 398.50,+2.13%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 972.00,+1.93%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2601.50,+1.71%), among others. On the flip side, Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1146.75,-6.59%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 507.20,-2.53%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2467.55,-2.10%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 590.70,-2.05%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 198.00,-0.93%), were among the top losers on BSE. On the sectoral front, all the indices were trading in green, barring healthcare stocks, while capital goods and IT emerged as top gainers, rising as much as 2.66 per cent and 1.6 per cent, respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2620, shares advanced were 1617 while 860 shares declined and 143 were unchanged.
