Indian stock market indices continued to trade in positive terrain in afternoon deal on Monday, tracking firm cues from Asian peers, amid short covering by investors in most beaten stocks. Realty and metal stocks saw surge in buying, led by DLF which rallied over 13 per cent after real estate major reported strong earnings for the first quarter ended June, 2017. The company has posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 110 crore in Q1FY18, from Rs 261 crore in the same quarter last year which included exceptional gain of Rs 329 crore. Among others, Cipla jumped over 6 per cent after drug maker reported 21 per cent year-on-year growth in its consolidated net profit at Rs 409 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2017.

At 12:23 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 31468.12, up by 254.53 points or by 0.82 per cent, and then NSE Nifty was at 9792.25, up by 81.45 points or by 0.84 per cent.

In the day’s trade so far, the Sensex touched intraday high of 31501.29 and intraday low of 31298.9, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9806.85 and intraday low of 9752.10.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 570.50,+5.12%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 616.00,+3.33%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 394.10,+2.66%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1732.00,+2.23%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7607.90,+2.08%), among others.

On the flip side, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 1992.00,-0.96%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 287.60,-0.79%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 411.55,-0.75%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 982.05,-0.58%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 986.25,-0.49%), were among top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, realty and metal stocks emerged as top gainers on BSE, adding as much as 4.22 per cent and 3.17 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2587, shares advanced were 1857, while 631 shares declined and 99 were unchanged.
