Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty trade flat in choppy trade; Infosys up 3%

Indian equities were trading flat with slightly negative bias on Thursday, undermining firm cues from Asian peers, as investors took some breather after strong rally in the last two sessions. Index heavyweight Infosys jumped nearly 3 per cent after Sebi approved IT bellwether's share buyback proposal and also offered a solution for participation by holders of the company’s American Depository Receipts (ADRs) and Global Depository Receipts (GDRs). Among others, Suven Life Sciences rallied over 6 per cent after the drug maker secured process patents of new chemical entities for treatment of disorders associated with neurodegenerative diseases in Europe, Japan and New Zealand.
At 12:15 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 31767.18, down by 3.71 points or by 0.01 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9903.75, up by 6.45 points or by 0.07 per cent.
In the day’s trade so far, the Sensex touched intraday high of 31937.51 and intraday low of 31714.1, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9947.8 and intraday low of 9884.5
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 246.65,+4.05%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1005.60,+2.95%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 414.95,+2.04%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 172.20,+1.23%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1579.20,+0.78%), among others.
On the flip side, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1170.15,-1.42%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 583.90,-1.07%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 393.75,-0.93%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1726.05,-0.89%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3985.00,-0.82%), were among top losers on BSE.
On the sectoral front, metal and teck emerged as top gainers on BSE, adding as much as 1.88 per cent and 1.07 per cent respectively.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2528, shares advanced were 1419, while 991 shares declined and 118 were unchanged.
