The Indian benchmark indices continued to trade in negative terrain with marginal losses in volatile session on Wednesday as traders turned cautious ahead of the Reserve Bank policy announcement due later in the day. The market experts opined that ease in WPI and retail inflation in June and contraction in India’s manufacturing activity in the month of July, may put pressure on the Reserve Bank of India to cut interest rate.

At 12:10 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 32553.6, down by 21.57 points or by 0.07 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 10100.1, down by 14.55 points or by 0.14 per cent.

In the day’s trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 32686.48 and intraday low of 32532.22, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10137.85 and intraday low of 10091.7.

Paring early losses, the Indian Rupee was trading marginally higher against the greenback on Wednesday amid selling of dollar by banks and exporters, while sustained foreign fund inflows also boosted home currency.

On the sectoral front, metal and FMCG stocks were among top losers on BSE, falling as much as 0.91 per cent and 0.62 per cent respectively.

Hero MotoCorp jumped over 2 per cent after the auto major reported 17 per cent year-on-year growth in monthly sales at 623,269 units in July compared to 532,113 units.

Hindustan Copper tumbled nearly 8 per cent in early trade after the the government set floor price for its offer for sale at Rs 64.75, down 8.35 per cent from Tuesday’s closing price of Rs 70.65 on the BSE.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2399.05,-1.14%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 165.55,-1.05%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2794.20,-1.02%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1137.00,-0.97%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 443.00,-0.87%), among others.

On the flip side, NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 171.10,+3.76%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3815.95,+2.54%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1040.65,+2.22%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1624.95,+1.33%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 521.10,+0.96%), were among top gainers on BSE.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2630, shares advanced were 1184 while 1296 shares declined and 150 were unchanged.
